Friday Forum

January Friday Forum -

The Baker County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to be able to offer the Friday Forum on the second Friday of each monthThe Forum is an informative, enjoyable venue for our community to learn more about the things that are happening in Baker County.

Tom Fisk, Bake City Public Works Department Supervisor, will address the Friday Forum on January 13th at 11:30 am at the Sunridge.

Tom is supervisor for the Street Department, one of the six sub-departments in the Public Works Department (Water, Wastewater, Parks, Cemetery, Technical Services, and Street).  He has worked for Baker City in the Public Works Department for 11 years, and as Department Supervisor since 1997.

Although the Street Department covers all types of maintenance (and even some construction) for over 67 miles of city streets, including signs, storm drains and shoulders, Tom's topic will be centered on SNOWHe will discuss the different problems encountered in clearing snow from city streets and possible ways to improve the processTom will explain the priorities the city uses in deciding when and which streets are plowed, the intersections that they salt, and where they sand and why.

Come out to the Sunridge on Friday, January 13th at 11:30am for the Friday Forum, and learn more about the excellent service our city street department proveds for us when the Eastern Oregon snow flies!!

Recognizing Baker County Businesses

This month Kurt Miller and the Baker Truck Corral has been chosen as the Baker County Business recognized for living the Chamber Mission Statement, reading (in part), to "Promote a United Baker County as a place to visit, live and do business..."

Kurt's philosophy toward community relations is the "business needs to try and be part of the community and support every part of it."

To that end, the Baker Truck Corral has gone out of its way to represent its support of every part of the communityFrom the car sale, which was designed in a way to benefit businesses, to sponsoring roping events, the Kids Rodeo and other community events, the Truck Corral has supported their community at large.  Their sponsorship of the Punt/Pass/Kick event during the High School football games, and the $1 per point per game for both boys and girls basketball, are intended to support the schools and our kids.  The Baker Truck Corral offers its facilities FREE to any group looking to raise money with a car wash - a great money maker for anyone, especially considering the type of traffic the Truck Corral sees in a day!  Even the key chains, free to local residents and good for five cents off per gallon of fuel fill-ups, is a benefit tot the people in the community.

Please join us in thanking Kurt Miller and the Baker Truck Corral for all they do for Baker County!
